We would like to first extend a ‘Thank You’ to all the members of the World Database for Pediatric Congenital Heart Surgery (WDPCHS) for your continued efforts and hard work in this important international project. The past two years have seen incredible resilience from our organization through some of the most challenging times.  Each year we take this opportunity to present our participation update for the World Database. In 2022, we have recruited three new centers including institutions in Chile, Egypt and Thailand. At this time over 20,000 tier 1 surgeries and over 17,000 tier 2 surgeries have been entered from all 70 participating World Database institutions.  Thank you to all the site coordinators and World Database members for your active participation in the database. We continue to be encouraged by your increasing contributions, and hope this inspires more participation. Please let us know how we can assist you better by writing to us at jeanneanne.love@kirso.net.  We look forward to hearing from you. We will continue to make enhancements to the web based data entry system in 2023 and we welcome all feedback and suggestions.

The COVID-19 pandemic has affected every aspect of our existence, with over one million individuals having succumbed to the virus worldwide. However, we will endure these historic events and become better, as a global community, than ever before. The leadership of the World Database for Pediatric and Congenital Heart Surgery wishes to express our deepest thoughts and prayers to all our colleagues who have experienced personal and professional tragedies as a result of this pandemic. Through the hardship and suffering, a renewed sense of comradery and collaboration has emerged. Societies across the globe, particularly those dedicated to the care of congenital heart disease, have shared experiences, provided tangible support, and cared for each other during these challenging times. We need to continue to pull together as a community; it is the only way we will be successful in defeating this insult to humanity.

We will come together as a group and will be a stronger global community after this.

As we enter a new year, we would like to extend a ‘Thank You’ to all the members of the World Database for Pediatric Congenital Heart Surgery (WDPCHS) for your continued efforts and hard work in this important international project. The WDPCHS continues to grow each year; now with 68 hospitals in 22 countries enrolling a collective 27,470 surgeries. The WDPCHS Web Based Data Entry system has undergone a number of enhancements throughout 2019 and the beginning of 2020, including the ability to translate the data entry forms into languages other than English, monthly surgery count verification tables, and added question & answer options to data entry forms. All these changes are noted on our World Database Website as well as changes since our inception in 2017; World Database Website We will continue make enhancements to the web based data entry system in 2020 and we welcome all feedback and suggestions.

]]> WDPCHS Newsletter – October 2019 https://wspchs.org/wdpchs-newsletter-october-2019/ Wed, 02 Oct 2019 18:41:49 +0000 https://beta.wspchs.org/?p=284 This is the fall newsletter of the World Database for Pediatric and Congenital Heart Surgery (WDPCHS). This newsletter will be distributed quarterly with updates to the database. Entering the third year of the World Database, 63 hospitals are now enrolled representing 20 countries with a collective 23,230 surgeries entered. We are happy to report that one-year follow up status is known for 67 percent of our patients. Enthusiasm for the database continues to grow and centers are enrolling rapidly.
