World Journal for Pediatric and Congenital Heart Surgery becomes
the official journal of CHSS and ECHSA
The Boards of both the Congenital Heat Surgeons’ Society and the European Congenital Heart Surgeons Association unanimously decided to approach the World Society for Pediatric and Congenital Heart Surgery and request that the World Journal be designated as official journal of their respective organizations. Following a few months of friendly negotiations the terms of agreement were approved by the World Society Governing Council and the Boards of CHSS and ECHSA. As of the January 2018 issue, CHSS and ECHSA will have their official logos join the World Society logo on the cover of the journal, and each will have their own societal page inside the journal listing their leadership, upcoming meetings and important messages. CHSS and ECHSA will nominate an Associate Editor and their members will receive an electronic subscription to the World Journal. Those members that are also members of he World Society will continue to receive a print copy of the World Journal.
The coming together of the three sister organizations around the World Journal, a crown jewel of the World Society, is a huge achievement. It is a testament of the exceptional quality achieved by the World Journal. A lot of credit goes to the Editor-in-Chief, Marshall Jacobs, the Managing Editor, Virginia Hawkins, the international Editorial Board, the hundreds of reviewers that support the peer-review process, and those that have financially supported the Journal’s development. The World Society extends congratulations and a warm collegial welcome to CHSS and ECHSA.
World Society at the 7th World Congress of Pediatric Cardiology and Cardiac Surgery, July 16-21, 2017, Barcelona, Spain
The World Society played an important role at the highly successful World Congress in Barcelona, Spain. We owe a debt of gratitude to the Congress Chairman, Sertac Cicek and the organizers for their hospitality. A significant part of the surgical program of the World Congress was put together in collaboration with the World Society. Richard Jonas, the World Society President delivered a fabulous Inaugural Lecture at the Opening Plenary Session, entitled “Bridging together: Teamwork in caring for the family touched by Congenital heart Disease”.
In addition there were several additional World Society activities during the Word Congress:
• Governing Council Meeting
• World Database for Pediatric and Congenital Heart Surgery Lunch Symposium
• World Journal for Pediatric and Congenital Heart Surgery Editorial Board Meeting
• Annual Members Meeting
